It’s time for 2012 sign ups! If you’d like to join us, please review the information below and let us know!

The 2012 Season Basics:

For those of you who are first-timers, a CSA is ultimately about forming a community around local and healthy food. We all make up the community, and we supply the local and healthy produce. Every week from approximately mid-June through October, you’ll receive a box of fresh veggies and eggs (and some fruit when in season) that we’ve grown and harvested here at the Lazy Parrot Ranch on Parrot Mountain.

If you live here on the mountain, you’ll pick up your share from the farm once a week, and if you live in Portland, you’ll pick up your share once a week in NE PDX . Each weekly share is designed to feed a household of about 3 people, but we also offer half shares for households of 1-2 if you’d prefer to receive a little less.

We farm organically here, and take pride in offering you a wide-range of vegetables. Depending on the week and what’s in season at the time, your boxes could contain a mixture of mixed greens, spinach, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale, leeks, onions, bell peppers, hot peppers, tomatoes (all kinds!), herbs, beans, beets, carrots, chard, corn, cucumbers, melons, peas, radishes, squashes, strawberries, blueberries, apples, flowers and much more!

As for the eggs, they come from chickens of many different breeds that are raised here at the Ranch in a free-range (rather pampered, really) environment.

Throughout the season, we may supplement the shares with veggies and fruits that we’ve sourced from organic farms and orchards run by our friends, in an effort to offer you even more variety. We also have a very good friend and expert preserver, Micah, who takes any of our excess produce and turns it into the most amazing array of preserved goods so you can expect to find the occasional jar in your share as well.

We welcome visitors who are interested in checking out the operation here, and if you ever feel inclined to get your hands dirty, we’ll have the periodical work day where members can come down and help us with various projects in return for a big meal afterwards. With that being said, members should never feel obligated we just know some people find it fun every once in a while so we like to make the opportunity available.

Lastly, we keep a blog throughout the season to keep members updated on what’s happening at the Ranch, as well as offering explanations on share contents and recipe suggestions, etc. Find us as lazyparrotcsa.wordpress.com.

Signing Up:

We are planning to cap the season at about 20 members, so if you’re interested in being a part of the Lazy Parrot CSA, please confirm as soon as possible to ensure your spot. We ask that you pay for the full season in advance for several reasons: both to keep financial logistics manageable, and to help us with the significant up-front costs of starting up the season. With that being said, we believe everyone should have access to local and healthy produce, so if you need to work out a payment plan, we’re happy to work with that.

We want our members to enter into this relationship as informed eaters and not consumers. We want our members to consider our relationship as collaborative, and consider themselves as co-producers. Because when you step back and look at it, we really are in this together.

You, as a member of our community, support our agriculture. Your support, which comes in many different forms, is met in return with our bountiful harvest. Unfortunately, this support system is not free of uncertainty and risk. Farming is risky. But uncertainty builds community, and we work very hard to build our community, and in the unlikely event that we encounter an issue, we know that we have your support. We embrace the uncertainty! So with that in mind, here is the breakdown:

Base Box (no eggs): ~22 weeks at $22/week, or $484 for the season
Base Box with 1 dozen eggs: ~22 weeks at $26/week, or $572 for the season
Half Share (no eggs): ~ 22 weeks at $12/week, or $264 for the season
Half Share with 1/2 dozen eggs: ~22 weeks at $14/week, or $308 for the season
** We can also do a full dozen eggs with the half share if needed, for $352 total

Please keep in mind that 22 weeks is our estimate of the season’s timeline, but it very well may start later or last longer. If you would like to join us this year, please let us know by April 1st by filling out the information below and sending it back to us at alexandra.eastman@gmail.com. We will then follow up about payment details, based on your choices.
